William “Bill” Cecil Cartwright

It is with heavy hearts that the Cartwright family announces the passing of Bill Cartwright on October 3, 2025, at his home in Hastings.

Bill was the beloved eldest son of the late William “Bill” P. Cartwright and is survived by his mother, Barbara Cartwright (née Watson). He was a proud and devoted father to Nicole Cartwright and stepfather to Jeanine Ward (Mark Passmore), and a very proud grandfather to Ella Cartwright.

Bill will be dearly missed by his siblings Mary (Charles) Marten and Doug (Carol) Cartwright, as well as by his nieces: Amy (Korey) Marten, Laura (Troy) Petherick, Julie (John) Found, Victoria (John) Friesen, his great-nieces and great-nephews.

Known for his warmth and his uncanny ability to make those around him laugh, Bill had a gift for storytelling—especially when recounting fond memories involving his daughter. He will be remembered for his deep love of fishing, poker, and cribbage, and for the joy he brought to every gathering.

“Thank you, Dad, for trying to teach me patience through fishing and for always being my cheerleader.”

As per Bill’s wishes, there will be no funeral. A private family celebration of life will be held at a later date.
