William 'John' Bishop

It is with great sadness in our hearts that we mourn the passing of William John Bishop.  John passed very peacefully on Sunday March 24, 2024, at Peterborough Regional Health Center with his best friend Christine Jaros, at his side.

John attended Thomas A. Stewart and graduated in 1973.  He shifted directly into working at General Electric until 1995.  It was at this time that his beloved mother, Phyllis Isabell Bishop (nee Gardiner), was starting to show the first signs of dementia.  John decided to stop working to take care of his mother at home.  He was a very loving and devoted son. 

John would say, “When my mom was pregnant with me, she left work to take care of me. She loved me more than work and I loved her more than work.  So, it was easy for me to do the same for her.”

He will be greatly missed by all who knew him especially those from his coffee crew at Tim Horton’s and his motorcycle group.

Everyone who knew John would recognise his laughter.  His remarkable laugh was contagious and could be heard from far away.  He will be greatly missed by his neighbours with whom he shared his: time, energy and tomatoes. 

John had a great affection for animals. Peanuts would be left out for the chipmunks, bird houses would be cleaned out every year and the bird bath was freshened up daily.  He adored his neighbours’ cats and dogs.  Snacks and meals were always prepared with love for them.  In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Peterborough Humane Society would be appreciated.

John's ashes will be interred in Little Lake Cemetery on Friday, April 5th, 2024 at 11:00am
