Peterborough's Most Beautiful Cemeteries and Funeral Home

Peterborough Cemeteries

Since 1850, Little Lake Cemetery has operated as a non-profit and non-denominational organization. The cemetery is surrounded by the quiet waters of Little Lake and the Otonabee River. For over160 years, Little Lake Cemetery has continued to offer a range of burial options, which currently includes traditional grave spaces, cremation graves and cremation columbariums which hold cremation urns. Burial lots and niches are still available for purchase within the historic Little Lake Cemetery.

In 1964, the Little Lake Cemetery Company opened the picturesque Highland Park Cemetery located at 2510 Bensfort Road (at River Road South ). It was here in 1976 that the first crematorium between Toronto and Ottawa was established.  Highland Park Crematorium continues to provide cremation service for the families we serve, plus for many funeral homes in the Peterborough and Kawartha region.

Highland Park Cemetery offers many burial options in its park-like setting, including indoor and outdoor columbarium structures for cremation urns, cremation graves, memorial wall graves and a variety of monument and marker graves. Also, in 1979, a section of Highland Park Cemetery was consecrated by the Bishop of Peterborough as an official extension of St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery in Peterborough.

Between Little Lake Cemetery and Highland Park Cemetery our groundkeepers plant and maintain over 2500 gardens and vases each growing season, adding colour and beauty to both cemetery locations.

Both Little Lake and Highland Park Cemeteries have a variety of grave and niche spaces to choose from, to suit a variety of budgets. We offer graves of different sizes, whether it's a monument, marker, cremation or memorial wall grave. Often a grave can accommodate a double-depth interment.

For those interested in cremation, but do not want a ground burial, cremation urns may be placed into granite or indoor glass-faced niches in columbarium structures. In most niches, two urns may be placed.
