Dear Jewell family,

We just heard about John's passing and we wanted to share our deepest condolences. John was my husband's big brother in the big brother program. He became a father figure to him growing up and Trevor has always looked up to him and used him as a reference for what to do in life. He was an amazing person and treated Trevor like a son. I had the honor of meeting him while I was pregnant a couple Christmases ago in Kingston and it meant a lot to meet the man who basically made my husband the man he is today.
Our hearts are broken as we write this and if you ever need anything, please do not hesitate to contact us. We are in Ottawa.
John will truly be missed. He is a big part of our family.
xoxoxo

Lots of love and hugs to all of you in this sad time,
Beth, Trevor and Hannah Gibbons

John will be greatly missed by myself and my family....especially his laugh and sense of humor. I came from a broken home as a kid and ended up meeting John in a mining camp at Mattabi when I was 16. He was like a big brother and we became good friends. Over the years I got married, had three children who are now grown up with their own kids and they all thought the world of Big John! Over the years we stayed in touch and had many good visits and laughs. John was like an ambassador of good will and touched many lives. The world is a little smaller place when someone like John passes.....I will always remember him! Condolences to all those who loved him!

Dear Jewel Family

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your families. John was a great friend to my mother (Mavis George) rides to cards, phone chats, visits to Landmark. Even after Mother went to Landmark Retirement John would pick her up for cards in Fenella , John would go inside to get mother and take mother back to her door when they got back. John was a caring and kind person.
Deepest Sympathy & God Bless

Mary, David, Garry, Susan, Doreen and Lynda,

Please accept our deepest sympathies on the loss of a brother and brother-in-law. We just read the news of John's passing today in the Northumberland Today. We were shocked and saddened to see/hear of John's passing. We would always see John from time to time and have a nice chat in between his busy card nights, card afternoons and his drives. We will miss seeing him around.

I'm sorry that when John came to Bruce's funeral in May that we didn't get a chance to have much of a chat. Shirley saw him a couple weeks after the service and John had said he wasn't feeling well the day of Bruce'e service but he felt all right this day and was looking forward to going out with Garry and Susan for supper.

Hopefully Bruce and John are catching up in heaven and remembering the good old days as we will do now. May the memories, the laughter and the chats provide comfort to all of you at this difficult time. Hugs.

A candle was lit by St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Session, Rev. Neil Ellis and Joy Randall on August 17, 2017 12:09 PM
St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Cobourg, our Session, our minister, Rev. Neil Ellis, and friends would like share our sympathy for the family of John. He has been a faithful member of our church for a few years and was a quiet but loving and concerned person. John would often share with me, Joy Randall, one of his elders, and since I live near St. Peter's Court he would often phone and have chats with my brother or myself as we live on Chapel St. His death was a surprise as he had been in church both Sundays and only shared with me the week before that he was not well and concerned for his future needs. I offered him rides but he still wanted to walk to church. He will be missed by many and thankful he is now at peace with his Lord.
