Walker, Mitchell James (Pa), 83, of Havelock, Ontario, passed peacefully at Peterborough Regional Health Centre after a brief illness on Sunday December 4, 2016 with the love of his life Wanda (Ma) (nee Wood) at his side.  They celebrated 60 wonderful years of marriage on October 13, 2016.

Mitchell was born in Bancroft, Ontario, worked as a loom fixer and supervisor for 24 years at Brinton and Armstrong Carpets in Peterborough, Ontario and retired in 1993 from Unimin Mines in Nephton, Ontario.

In retirement he pursued many interests including gardening, travelling and building musical instruments. He became very involved in music and helped establish the Mid Week Jammers Club in Havelock.  Fundraising by this group helped renovate and refurbish the Havelock Town Hall.  In 2016 he was a co-recipient of the Peterborough County Community Betterment Award for this work.

He was the quiet, loving and strong head of an exceptionally close family.  He was the family's best example of how to live a good and honourable life.

Mitchell is predeceased by his parents Charles and Norah Walker.  He is also predeceased by brothers and sisters Florence Sutherland (Stanley), Elsie Foster (Roy), Geneva Ingram (Leonard), Lucille Dickson (Bill), Floyd (Nellie), Mabel Ferguson (Murray), Thelma Armstrong (Ron), Stanley (Helen), Emerson (Rose), and Selva Jean.

Mitchell is deeply missed by his sons Ron (Barbara Mathers) and Tom (Beth);  Ron and Barbara's children Sarah and Michael (Ruth); Tom and Beth's children Erica (Jon) Doucette, Brad and Jacqueline; and Erica and Jon's children Annika and Ainsleigh. He is lovingly remembered by his brother and sisters Ken, Viola Foley (the late Ross), Betty Armstrong (Fay), Linda Brock (the late Gordon) and Kathleen Ryter (Gary) as well as his many in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends.

A celebration of life will be held in April 2017 to coincide with Mitchell’s 84th birthday.

As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Mid Week Jammers Club would be appreciated by the family.
