Working with John was a pleasure at the Kruz / Wolf radio stations in Peterborough. Yet we both can go back to Weyburn, Sask. days. I was in the news department at CFSL when it was celebrating its 25th anniversary. John was among the few recognized at the time for getting that radio station on air right from the start. Stepping back further in time, it was a pleasure hearing John while my family attended the Argo games at Exhibition Stadium. As John would say on air: "I can tell you..." it was an honour knowing John. Our condolences to the Badham family.

It was with sadness I learned of John’s the passing. I had the pleasure of working with him when he guest hosted on CBC Radio’s Sound of Sports. As the rookie producer, I was never made to feel like the “rookie” with John. He was very giving of his time and advice. The best part of working with him was listening to the way he would report on sports. John told stories. He had such an ease about him – it was natural and you couldn’t help but be drawn in. He was well deserving of the prestigious Career Achievement Award from Sports Media Canada. His dulcet tones may have been silenced but his memory lives on.

I worked with John at CFTR-CHFI in the 70's. he was always a pleasure to work with and had the best pipes in the biz. when I arrived in 1972 I was given John's old car as he was getting a new one. not much of a car but I appreciated it because it was free.He will be remembered as one of the "nice guys" in a business that could be anything but nice. rest well,my friend.

I was shocked and saddened by news of John's passing. I broadcast with him, I curled with him, I laughed with him and his tremendous sense of humour. Mike is gone and now John. Time is relentless. It waits for no one. In my book which was released in September I refer to John as having "golden tonsils" and that he could call football games "with the best of them!" Rest in peace "Batman." It was great knowing you and deepest sympathy to Dorothy and family. Lorne & Velma Harasen, Regina Sk.

Hello Dorothy and family.
So sad to hear of John passing. So many memories of John and Mike and our time
together at CKCK Regina. Remembering all the Rider and Pats play by play by play
and those golden days at CKCK. I did the afternoon drive show for many years and
John was my news and sports guy. While doing sports one day he referred to
Milt Schmidt, the coach of the Boston Bruins as Milt Shit.
I had to play 3 songs in a row till I could quit laughing.
I'll never forget the stories he told about working part time at the mental hospital
in Weyburn. One day they had a fire, and let all the inmates out on the street.
It took John and the staff 3 days to go around town and round them up.
Joanna and I send our love and condolences for a life well lived.
Expression of Sympathy

I worked with John at CFTR/CHFI FM when he first arrived from Regina. CFTR had just landed the rights to broadcast Argo's football. John as a gentleman and a pleasure to work with.

I posted this on Facebook on Thursday: I have known John for more than 40 years dating back to his days of CFL play-by-play of Toronto and Hamilton.
We met again when he was sent to Peterborough to cover the 1980 Ontario Summer Games for CBC and then when he moved here!
He just had a great voice for football broadcasts.
Unfortunately, I will b in Toronto at the end of the week for medical testing of my own and doubt if I can get back in time for John's celebration of life. Know that my thoughts will be with him, though!!

Canada has lost a sports broadcasting legend and those of us who were honoured to know him have also lost a great friend. I'll always cherish the times spent with John across the CFL stadiums, knowing how much the games, the people and our brand of football meant to this "Prairie Boy" at heart. It was fitting that last month John was saluted with the Sports Media Canada Career Achievement Award and he got to see Ottawa win the Grey Cup Championship! Sincerest condolences to John's entire family.

Dear Dot and family,
It is a sad day. To have known John is a great privilege. We had the pleasure of having John and Dorothy as our witnesses to our wedding. We also met his children and some of his grandchildren, to which he was so proud of.
Please know, that you are in my thoughts and prayers and may the fact that he was well respected in the community of Peterborough (and in Ottawa before) should be of great consolation.
Regards,
Pauline M. Dupont
